Trump has support of DC Police Union to federalize policing in the Capital
Washington DC has been a rather rowdy place for quite some time. While some critics may say that the crime isn't high as it once was but the city has a particularly troubling issue which doesn't get enough attention: Car Theft is soaring across the city
Much of the growth in Car Theft is concentrated after the pandemic. There was some decline in 2024 but the levels are much more elevated than in the past. The inability to bring this under control has bene one of the reasons why car insurance costs have been growing quickly. In my own personal case, my car insurance went up from the mid 50s to over 110 dollars since 2022. My insurance company at the time, Nationwide was simply too expensive. I switched to GEICO and I have been enjoying that my costs will decrease in my next series of premiums I have to pay. However, car insurance costs are still rising across the country. Auto thefts are absolutely having an important role in influencing this huge increase in car insurance.
While homicides may show up on the news the most, car theft is really having impact on people's wallets. When one thinks about it, one needs a car in almost every section of the country. Excluding the most urban areas surrounding some of our biggest cities, every car that is stolen is going to hurt someone's wallet.
The country isn't like it was in the 1980s when the crime rate was higher but now it seems like the consequences matter more now. We need to start running a tighter ship in comparison to previous ages.
In those previous ages, we could probably afford to move away from problems. We cannot do that now. It is time to start pushing a state with a more holistic policy here. We need to have our capital to be the shining example to our citizens and people in other countries. We also need to start dealing with the rampant auto theft which rampant across our country.
Car theft is a serious problem and solving it in the capital will help to provide greater examples to other cities and even in other countries. A country similar to us, Canada, has been hit hard by huge amounts of car theft across provinces, especially in the more rural provinces. We need to start making an example so that people will take the police seriously, especially after the neoliberals were trying to push with their "abolish the police" nonsense.
Many people in our age simply want to live inside the idealism of a time which was backed by military force. We are entering a new age of pragmatism with a realistic idealism I would say. We will regain some amount of our power once again and be able to compete with China.
